The Buffalo DriveStation Turbo USB Portable Drive is Buffalo's version of a terabyte drive. Turbo refers to the USB interface running at a lower "overhead" (Uses fewer resources, thus runs faster.) than typical USB 2.0 connections. Buffalo claims to achieve "up to 37% faster" USB 2.0 transfer speed, but without referring to the base line behind this statement. Yes, the drive provides good performance at up to 32 MB/s read throughput and 27 MB/s write transfer rates. However, this isn't a new record, but it is definitely still within the performance boundaries of USB 2.0. At under $100 from USB Portable Drives--Buffalo Drivestation Turbo USB Portable Drive you won't have to break the budget.Other than that, the DriveStation Turbo USB Portable Drive is pretty much a regular Joe when it comes to eportable USB drives: black case with the aluminum side panels acting as heatsinks and convection cooling vents in the top and bottom of the case for airflow. There is an optional fan available if you think it's needed. Included with the drive is Memeo Autobackup software that not only offers a backup regimen that drills down to the file level if you so choose, but will also help you to manage the files you have. It's really quite simple to use and works effectively. Lastly, there's SecureLockWare if you want to encrypt your backup files and keep them safe from prying eyes -- something often overlooked on a hard drive that can be picked up and carried away. This ill make an excellent storage device for the small office/home office user or for families. It is not as portable as the regular USB portable drives.
